Welcome to Mountain Tails!


I’m Kevin the founder and co-owner of @mountaintails22. I’m from Puerto Rico, living in the state of TN. I’m pursuing my Animal Science degree to become a Small and Large Veterinarian specializing in reproduction. Follower of Jesus and love to talk faith and what he has done in my life, always with a cup of coffee in my hands(if you like coffee we are already friends lol), and spicy food is a must.

I’ve always been around dogs from a very young age, but the opportunity for my siblings and I to buy our very first dog, Max (on the left), changed everything. Max was our first large breed dog and first puppy we truly cared for, and we quickly fell in love with his temperament and disposition.Everyone in our neighborhood knew Max. He was sweet to everyone he met, and to this day you’re his friend the moment you tell him hi. That’s where it all began.With his first stud services, everything took off. I began educating myself on how to not only have cute puppies, but puppies with amazing temperaments. From there, I started adding dogs that checked those boxes, always striving to improve. That led to genetic testing, OFA testing, and offering our services to other breeders. Even before having our own litter, I was able to learn from others and see how they did things, which helped shape where we are today. Fast forward, we weren’t able to have a Golden Retriever litter, and that’s when I started to look into doodles. Goldendoodles caught my attention, but Bernedoodles truly got me. I began searching for the perfect Bernese, and Addi came along—one of those God moments. From there, everything started falling into place.

 Yes, all of our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health testing through Embark Veterinary and Gensol for specific genetic copies to help ensure we are producing healthy, high-quality puppies. We also complete Orthopedic Foundation for Animals evaluations or preliminary screenings (prelims and finals) to assess hips, elbows, and overall structural soundness. Our goal is to breed dogs with excellent health, temperament, and conformation while prioritizing the long-term well-being of every puppy we produce. 

 We feed our adult dogs Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice Formula for Large Breed Adult Dogs to support their overall health and nutritional needs. Our puppies are fed Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice Formula for Large Breed Puppies, which provides balanced nutrition to support healthy growth and development during their crucial early stages of life. We have found these formulas to promote healthy digestion, strong bones, and excellent overall condition in our dogs. 

 

Any dietary changes should be made gradually over 7–10 days to help prevent digestive upset when transitioning a puppy to a new food.
 In addition to feeding Diamond Naturals formulas, we supplement our dogs' diets with a variety of fresh, wholesome foods to provide nutritional enrichment and dietary diversity. These additions may include proteins such as chicken, beef, venison, lamb, rabbit, and duck, along with eggs, fish oil, and coconut oil. We also incorporate dog-safe vegetables and fruits, including broccoli, carrots, strawberries, and blueberries, as well as oats, plain Greek yogurt, and kefir. These foods are offered as supplements to a balanced diet and help support overall health, digestion, skin and coat quality, and enrichment for our dogs.  

Our puppies are raised using the Bad Ass Breeder (BAB) curriculum, which incorporates Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) during critical stages of development. Puppies receive daily handling and age-appropriate enrichment designed to build confidence, resilience, and adaptability. Through these proven practices, we strive to help our puppies develop into well-rounded companions that are better prepared to handle everyday challenges, new environments, and positive social interactions throughout their lives.
